Garage Organization Tips

Just a few good tips

can make a big difference in the organization of your garage

A few garage organization tips are always useful when you are working on a plan to organize your garage. Storage space is always limited in every home. No matter ho big, there's always more stuff to store than space to store it.

With all that stuff in your garage you can make better, more efficient use of the space with just a few organization tips for the garage. So lets get started.

Large and bulky items such as bicycles can take up a lot of valuable floor space. Why not reclaim that floor space by getting those bicycles up off the ground. There are many inexpensive fixtures available for hanging a bicycle off the ground. You're sure to find one that's right for your space.

Tools can take up a lot of space too. If you haven't got a good toolbox to store these items, you can hang many of your tools from a wall with a few sheets of peg board. There are a wide range of peg board hooks and kits designs available too, so it's easy to find a hook to hang all the tools you've got. And another tip - be sure to hang the heavier tools near the bottom to make it easier to pick up.

One of the most troubling items that most of us have in our garage is the small stuff. Things like screws, nails, nuts and bolts. Old jars with lids such as baby food jars, are useful for these. If you haven't got any baby food jars around, you can purchase jars especially made for this - you can even get jars designed to fit with the peg boards mentioned earlier.

Empty coffee cans or inexpensive plastic kitchen containers are also very handy for garage organization. They are available in sizes to accommodate almost any small items you need to store away.

Power tool cables can often make a mess and you can keep them tidy using velco cable ties. In fact velcro ties are useful for all sorts of cables and ropes, and even bundles or wires or garden bamboo canes that can be very messy unless tied securely together. Rubber bands can often do the same job.

Shelving is another rather easy option. There are several designs of shelf hangers available from adjustable height or fixed height. For very little money, you can install self after self providing plenty of garage organizing and storage space.

You may prefer cupboards over open shelving. They certainly look a lot better then open shelving hosting all manor of items. These can get costly though, so figure out what your budget is and if it's starting to look doubtful consider using second hand kitchen cabinets or bookshelves instead of new cupboards or shelf cases. You can save a lot of money this way - how's that for a garage organization tip?

Expensive or sharp items are best locked away in lockable cabinets designed for the purpose. Any sharp or dangerous items should also be locked away, especially if small children live in the home.

The same is true if you have any flammables. They should be stored in a flame-proof cupboard. Spare gas, solvent based cleaners and cellulose spray paints can cause a great deal of damage in the event of a fire, and such cabinets are not overly expensive. Any secure metal container big enough to hold them should be suitable.

Probably the best tip of all is to keep the garage clean! Give it a going over on a regular basis, the first Saturday of every month for example, and do not let it become overly cluttered, untidy or dirty. If you have a chance and the garage is cleared out - give the floor a thorough cleaning and a coat of concrete epoxy paint that will keep the dust down, and make cleaning so much easier in the future.

There are tons more garage organization tips that could help you to keep your garage clean and tidy than we can list in this one article, but if you follow even just some of these above, then you will find your garage a lot more organized and easier to keep clean than if you ignored them.
